Dispatcher

The Position

Under close and general supervision, performs a variety of duties involved in receiving, evaluating, prioritizing, and relaying calls for emergency and non‐emergency public safety assistance; dispatches appropriate units and coordinates response of emergency personnel; operates a variety of telecommunications equipment including radio, telephone, and computer aided dispatch systems: performs a wide variety of specialized duties involved in emergency communications; and performs related duties as assigned.

Essential Duties:

• Receives emergency calls for police, fire, or other emergency services.

• Receives 9‐1‐1 calls, determines priority, and dispatches appropriate units via radio and

Mobile Data Terminals in accordance with established procedures.

• Coordinates emergency incidents or calls for service, relaying information and assistance

requests involving other public safety entities.

• Tracks and maintains current status of field units.

• Enters, updates, and retrieves information from local, state, and national databases relating

to wanted or missing persons, stolen property, vehicle registration, stolen vehicles, etc.

• Receives incoming telephone and voice radio requests for non‐emergency assistance.

provides appropriate information and referrals.

• Provides Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) services to callers through an accredited system

of telephone triage and pre‐arrival instructions.

• Responds to and resolves difficult and sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints.

• Performs related duties as assigned.

Pay

The annual salary of a dispatcher ranges from $68,084 - $99,753

Retirement - CalPERS (in accordance with Public Employee's Retirement Law)

2% @ 62 PEPRA Employees: Hired on or after January 1, 2013 with no prior membership with a California public retirement system or not eligible for reciprocity.

2% @ 55 Classic Employees: Current CalPERS members or former CalPERS members without a break of service of more than 180 days

Leave Accruals:

Sick Leave: 56 hours for the first year; and 72 hours after one year

PTO: 234 hours for the first year; and 298 hours after 9 years

Special Holiday Pay

Education Incentive Pay: 

Ranges from $65 - $275 per month based on level of education.

Tuition Reimbursement - $1050.00 max per fiscal year.

Uniform Allowance:

$30 paid in each biweekly pay period.

Medical/Retiree Health: 

A variety of plans are offered through CalPERS. The City pays $1,200 per month to active employees and eligible retirees and the employee pays any difference. $150/month cafeteria plan contribution.

Deferred Compensation: 

Rocklin offers optional programs for employee participation (457 plans). PEPRA employees receive $200 per month (no match)

Life & AD&D:

City-paid $50,000 life insurance and Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D)

Communication Training Officer Pay

Five percent pay increase for all hours worked as a trainer.

Dispatcher Work Schedule

  • Typical schedule for a police dispatcher includes working two, twelve-hours shifts and two, eight-hour shifts.

  • 24 Hour operations require shift flexibility for those assigned to the position as dispatcher.

  • Shift Bids occur three times a year and are in order of seniority.
